Value Engineering
Value Engineering is an approach to project
planning and design that we use to help us deliver more of
what you want within your budget. It involves allocating
different proportions of your budget to different areas of
your project according to your priorities. Take these two
scenarios, for example:
If you are remodeling your kitchen and master bath and would
love to soak in a whirlpool tub, we might plan to use more
of your budget on the most magnificent master bath possible
and your kitchen, while being done very well, might utilize
standard home appliances, mid-priced stone counters, and
good quality but mid-priced cabinets.
Then again, say that you are doing the same project, remodeling
your kitchen and master bath, but you love to prepare gourmet
meals for friends and family and you are not seeking to turn
your master bath into a luxury spa. In this case we would
recommend you use your budget to get upgraded professional
stoves, ovens, and refrigeration units; make the kitchen
bigger with more work area; and use custom cabinets so you
can hold all of your special equipment. Your master bath
will still be very nice, but it might not be as large or
have as many expensive features, such as an 8-headed steam
shower that pulses water in time with the music coming from
your 5 in-shower speakers.
Both of these projects could cost the same, but produce
very different results. This is the benefit of value engineering:
it puts your money where your priorities are, and you end
up with a project that is finely tuned to your desires.
